As you recall favorite past hunts, this picture may bring back memories of crisp mornings, the sounds of shots fired and the barking of your favorite hunting companion. This year is the 30th Anniversary of the Springer Special Pheasant Hunt created by Terry J. Killough. The popular hunt originated in 1973 and has changed very little since its inception. Habitat improve-ments, youth days, use of non-toxic shot, a new parking area, and an upgrade of the check station building are the major improvements.
You are invited to attend:
What: The unveiling of a commemorative plaque for Terry J. Killough, creator of the Springer Hunt and established endowment fund.
Where: At the Springer Check Station 1 ¼ miles west of Highway 85 on County Road 7-136 When: Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.
On the first Saturday of the 2003 Springer Pheasant hunt an unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Terry J. Killough/Springer Wildlife Habitat Management Area Endowment is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The Endowment is a fitting legacy of Terry’s 27 years with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department
Commemorative Hats
The Wyoming Game Warden’s Association and the Stop Poaching Program are providing a limited number of fluorescent camouflage hats showing the 30th Anniversary logo. Hats will be available at the Springer Check Station as long as supplies last.
A bulletin board displaying pictures of new and experienced hunters of the past 30 years will be set up at the check station. Hunters are invited to bring pictures to the check station, or send a picture of their past pheasant hunts to: The Wyoming Game & Fish Dept., 528 South Adams, Laramie, WY 82070, Attn: Sharon. Pictures will not be returned, but will become part of the seasons display
Raffle
As a lasting legacy of his 27 years with the WGFD, Terry donated his life savings to the Springer Wildlife Habitat Management Area in the form of an Endowment Fund. Money generated from the endowment is used to enhance the Springer WHMA for future generations. The Wyoming Game Wardens Association is sponsoring a raffle to enhance the Terry J. Killough/Springer Wildlife Habitat Management Area Endowment Fund. Terry was a member of the WGWA throughout his career. The Association will donate all profits to the Endowment Fund for the continuing effort to improve game bird hunting in Wyoming. See complete information on the reverse side. Tickets will be available at the check station.
Terry was an accomplished artist as well as a wildlife biologist and regional supervisor for the department. In memory of his life (1942-2001) the department has displayed his artwork on this year’s big game regulations as a reprint of the original printing in 1974.
Contributions to the Endowment Fund can be made through the Wyoming Community Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, 221 Ivinson Ave., Suite 202, Laramie, Wyoming, 82070.
