Wyoming Range Public Input Process

Welcome to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Wyoming Range Mule Deer Webpage

Thank you for your interest in the Wyoming Range mule deer herd. This is a world-class herd, and we're glad you have decided to join in the dialogue about it. On this page you will find a draft of the Wyoming Range mule deer management plan. The plan's executive summary features the new actions the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be implementing in this herd unit.

This plan is the culmination of a series of public meetings held in western Wyoming in June and August of 2010, and February of 2011. This public involvement process and resulting management plan is being developed under direction of the state's Mule Deer Initiative, which is a statewide framework designed to address declining mule deer populations. During these meetings we received feedback on what people in attendance viewed as the biggest issues related to mule deer in the Wyoming Range, and what solutions could be used to address those issues. This feedback formed the basis for the draft plan. If you would like more information on the public input process, explore this page for presentations and notes from the meetings.

Information and results from June and August

A Note from the Director

February 3, 2011

Dear Wyoming Range Participant:

Thank you for your continued interest in assisting the Wyoming Game and Fish Department develop a plan for mule deer management in the Wyoming Range.  Game and Fish personnel have been working hard to complete a draft plan after two successful sets of public meetings, held in June and August.  We are looking forward to sharing our draft with you at the February 7-10, 2011 meetings in Marbleton, Afton, Kemmerer, and Green River.  The input we received so far has been very helpful and we sincerely appreciate the time you spent with us.

On this website, you will find a comprehensive list of ideas generated from our previous public meetings.  This information will help us focus priorities for deer management in the Wyoming Range for the next 5 to 10 years.  Information from the June meetings was prioritized into the categories of habitat management, population management, law enforcement, research, public involvement and outreach, and predator management.  In August, we used the June information to develop possible solutions, forming the basis of the draft plan.

In our third set of public meetings, we will present this draft management plan and you will be able to give feedback at that time.  It will also be available on this web page so those who were not at the meetings may comment.  Written comments will also be accepted through March 15, 2011.  The plan will be finalized with the public input and presented to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission at a future meeting.

We look forward to the final round of meetings and implementing the plan to benefit mule deer.  Again, your help in ensuring the future of this magnificent wildlife resource is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Steve K. Ferrell
Director
