Game and Fish Plans Prescribed Burn

CASPER – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is planning to conduct a prescribed fire south of Casper beginning on Monday, Sept. 19, dependant on weather and fuels meeting burn prescription parameters. The burn will include several hundred acres in the Bates Creek area, approximately 20 miles south of Casper. It is part of the ongoing Bates Creek Watershed Restoration Project, which will remove 5,000 acres of conifer trees to encourage growth of aspen for the benefit of wildlife. Smoke from the fire may be visible to Casper residents and motorists traveling nearby highways, especially Interstate 25. Residents are cautioned to avoid trying to drive to the burn sites to avoid trespassing on surrounding private lands.

Sportsmen: Don't forget to purchase your 2011 licenses and conservation stamps before heading out to the field.

HUNTERS NEEDED TO PASS ON TRADITION

Are you concerned about the decline in the number of hunters in Wyoming and across the United States? Want to help reverse that trend and help pass the tradition on to the next generation of hunters? If so, consider becoming a hunter education instructor. Volunteer instructors are needed in Casper and the minimum requirement is to teach one class a year. Give Robin a call at (307) 473-3409 to learn how to become an instructor and to help the next generation learn to be safe and ethical hunters.
