Daniel Fish Hatchery
P.O. Box 168, 239 Pope County Road
Daniel, Wyoming 83115
(307) 859-8252
Located 15 miles northwest of Pinedale on U.S. 191,
and 2.4 miles west on Sublette County Road 23-150
(Pape Road).
Located in a mountain valley
between the west slope of the Wind River Mountains and the east slope of the
Wyoming Range, the Daniel Hatchery rests in an extremely scenic location.
Land for this facility was donated to the Wyoming Game & Fish Department by
Mr. and Mrs. William Pape in 1917. The facility was completed in 1923 and
expanded in 1966.
Two springs supply 3 million gallons of water a day to
the hatchery at an average temperature of 45 degrees F. The Daniel facility
performs the important function of incubating grayling eggs and golden trout
eggs, both of which are taken from lakes in the Wind River Mountains. In
addition to the golden and grayling, the hatchery also rears rainbow and
brook trout and maintains brood stock for Colorado River cutthroat and
Bonneville cutthroat trout.
Try your luck fishing on the Green River accesses above
Orin Bridge or off the county road about a mile above the hatchery.
